The Immaculate Conception of Mary
December 8
is the dogma of faith that declares that by a singular grace of God, Mary was preserved from all sin , from its conception .
As we will show , this doctrine is of apostolic origin , although the dogma was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854 , in his Bull Ineffabilis .
" ... we declare , we proclaim and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved from all stain of original sin in the first instant of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of Almighty God, in view of the merits Jesus Christ Savior of mankind , is revealed by God and therefore must be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful ... "
(Pius IX , Bula Ineffabilis Deus, December 8, 1854 )
Conception : A time in which God created the soul and infused into the organic material from parents . Conception is the moment when human life begins .
When we speak of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception does not refer to the conception of Jesus who , of course , was also conceived without sin. The dogma states that Mary was preserved from all lack of sanctifying grace since it was conceived in the womb of her mother St. Anne 's say Mary is " full of grace" from conception .
The Encyclical "corona Fulgens " published by Pope Pius XII in 1953 to commemorate the centenary of the definition of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception , argues thus: " If at any time the Blessed Virgin Mary had been deprived of divine grace , to have been contaminated in its conception by the hereditary stain of sin , between her and the snake would not have already , at least during this period of time, however brief off - the eternal enmity of the talk from the primitive tradition to the solemn definition of the Immaculate Conception , but rather some bondage "
Biblical Foundation
The Bible does not explicitly mention the dogma of the Immaculate Conception , nor explicitly mention many other doctrines that the Church received from the Apostles. The word " Trinity" , for example, does not appear in the Bible. But it appears the Immaculate Conception of the Bible when it is correctly interpreted in the light of the Apostolic Tradition.
The first passage which contains the promise of redemption ( Genesis 3:15) mentions the Mother of the Redeemer . It is called Proto - Evangelium , where God declares enmity between the serpent and the woman . Christ, the seed of the woman (Mary) crush the head of the snake. She will be exalted to the sanctifying grace that the man had lost by sin. Just the fact that Mary was kept in a state of grace can explain the continued enmity between her and the serpent . The Proto - Evangelium , therefore , contains a direct promise of a Redeemer to come . The perfect preservation of all sin from his Virgin Mother : Beside The manifest his masterpiece .
In Luke 1:28 the angel Gabriel sent by God says to the Blessed Virgin Mary "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you . '. The Spanish words " full of grace " does not do justice to the original Greek text is " kecharitomene " and means a unique abundance of grace, a supernatural state of the soul in union with God. Although this passage does not "prove " the Immaculate Conception of Mary certainly suggests it.
Revelation tells of the "woman clothed with the sun" ( Rev 12:1 ) . She represents the holiness of the Church, which is fully realized in the Blessed Virgin, under a singular grace. She's all because there is no glory in it any taint of sin. Take the reflection of divine splendor , and appears as great sign of the spousal relationship of God with his people.
